Some booze, a boogie, oh! and some blog awards!

You may have noticed that shiny Blog Awards Ireland Finalist Badge sitting on my blog these past few weeks.  If you are a fan of Learner Mama on Facebook you will have also seen my announcement of the fact that I made it to the final in Best Parenting Blog category of the Blog Awards Ireland.

Last Saturday was the day (or night).  Of course I am only getting to write about it now as it has taken me this long to recover.  As a mum, nights out can be rare so to make sure I took full advantage of the night I booked into the Westgrove hotel in Clane where the awards were to take place.  I also managed to recruit a roomie, in the form of lovely blogger Sinead of Bumbles of Rice.  We were both competing for Best Parenting Blog (but there wasn’t a hint of competition) and she was up for Best Blog Post too.

I arrived at the hotel early and managed to take in a swim before hitting the shower and getting the glad rags on.  A quick snifter (read bottle) of prosecco with my roomie and we were off to the drinks reception where Vangaurd Craft beers were letting us sample their delights.  I am not a beer drinker but they had a fantastic range of options which any beer connoisseur would be only thrilled with.

There seemed to be an endless stream of parenting bloggers arriving and it was really lovely to put a face to the name for many of them and also to catch up with others that, while I had met before, it had been a while.

We grabbed our seats for dinner (the rowdy mammy’s at the back!) and ten awards were dished out before our starter was.

Of note was the winner of Best Beauty Blog, Dolly Rouge and Best Health and Wellbeing Blog with Fiona of Sunny Spells and Scattered Showers.

The Best Parenting Blog category seemed to come around faster than I thought it would.  There was a moment of nervousness as the finalists were called out……but I didn’t win.  Insert sad face here!

The award was won by Lisa from mama.ie and founder of our fabulous group of Irish Parenting Bloggers.

The final round of awards were distributed concluding with Best Blog Post, won by Beating myself into a dress and Best Blog, the title of which was won by One Man’s Meat.

Once the awards were over we could all relax into the evening.  And relax I did.  We finished off our meal with some cocktail style desserts compliments of Glenisk.

Then there was chatting, dancing and drinking.  More chatting, more dancing and more drinking.  By 3 am myself and Sinead managed to find our way back to our room.  A much-needed full Irish breakfast the following morning sealed a fantastic event before we had to travel back and face reality again.

So, it’s all over for another year.  For my first year up for an award I was thrilled to have made it to the final and delighted that I attended.  For now though, the fancy dress has been put away and it’s back to being Mammy.  Normal service resumes on the blog.
