Bubble Bum Inflatable Booster Seat [Review – Giveaway Closed]

By on

From the minute my first baby was born, car safety was in the forefront of my mind.  I clearly remember leaving hospital with my new little baby in her Group 0, rear facing car seat.  I sat in the back of the car with her to make sure she was okay.   As the years have progressed we have moved through the various car seat stages.

It’s all very well having your chosen car seats fixed in your personal car but the real dilemma comes when dealing with car seat safety when travelling.  Car seats are bulky and difficult to bring along when travelling.  Equally renting them from a car hire company can be costly.  If taking a taxi you cannot be guaranteed a car seat at all, and even if you do get one the type or quality is not certain.

I was delighted when I was contacted by Bubble Bum asking if I wanted to try out their inflatable booster seat.  It was a no brainer.  I have three kids all in the Bubble bum age range.  Of course I wanted to!

The car seat arrived nicely packaged in a box.  I could hardly believe that a fully functioning booster seat was in it.  So neat and compact.  Inside I found the seat itself, a seat belt clip, a travel bag and instructions.

Easy Installation

The installation is super easy.  Just open up the valve, blow to inflate and close the valve.  Though you do need to be quick getting the valve closed so the air doesn’t escape!  Then hey presto, a fully inflated booster seat!

Fitting it in the car is super easy too.  In fact the seat has become a firm favourite with my oldest who moves around between seats and is often in the middle seat.  She was finding trying to squash a regular rigid seat into the space and then do her seat belt really awkward.  The bubble bum fits perfectly. She loves it.  Her brother and sister have hardly had a look in.

It is designed for use with a standard 3 point adult seat belt.  There are side clips for the seat belt to thread through and also a seat belt clip which means there is no seat belt nagging at the neck area.  Very comfortable and very safe.

Safety reassured

On the topic of safety the Bubble Bum seat has undergone rigorous testing and is approved under the United Nations ECE Regulation R44/04 for safety for both Groups 2 and 3 which is totally reassuring.

When not in use or when travelling the seat can just be deflated and popped into the travel bag.  Just open the valve and squeeze all the air out and fold it into the bag.  Really easily transportable and light weight too.  Here it is, with a magazine for size comparison, all folded away for next use.

There are so many options for using the Bubble Bum:  as an extra car seat if giving lifts to your kids’ friends, a spare car seat to keep at the Grandparents’ house, when taking a taxi or when travelling abroad.  I’m not surprised to have read that the seat has won numerous awards including from Mumsnet, Mother & Baby and Practical Parenting.  I would definitely recommend this product.  We have been loving using it and I can see it as something I will get great use out of over the coming years.

The Bubble Bum Car Seat is recommended for children aged 4-11, which covers off all three of my children!  It is available from Amazon, Halfords and Boots for £29.99/€39.99 and for a limited time and while stocks last is available in Lidl stores in Ireland and Northern Ireland for the discounted price of €24.99/£21.99.
